About Sevana

We in the Kollam District Administration feel that the people around us are in need of information and at the same time we are aware that information is available in abundant quantity with the people themselves. We try to collect it, arrange it and offer it back to those in need.

It was when facing the terrible incident of Tsunami that we came to feel how inadequate is our knowledge about the resources and services available in our district. We did not even have a list of hospitals or laboratories or the addresses of medical professionals. We didn’t have any means to contact the owners of ambulances. Enormous manpower and precious time had to be wasted in finding out this basic information. We strongly felt that had this basic information been readily available, the rescue operations would have been much easier and effective.

It was this experience that led us to think of a web portal in line with the ‘wiki’. The District Informatics Centre, Kollam in association with the District Administration has designed this website and collected some basic information which acts as a nucleus for the grand site which is to evolve with the active participation of the general public, the government departments and nongovernmental organisations.

We offer a space where anybody can supply whatever information they do possess and wish to share with others. Anybody who owns any public utility firm or offers any service can register their details in the site. They can be resources such as hospitals, hotels, supermarkets, textiles, small shops etc or services such as advocates, doctors, engineers, teachers, tree climbers, barbers, carpenters or whoever or whatever it is. Registration is made very simple. It is totally free. It can be done at any of the AKSHAYA centres which are available in all the grama panchayats in Kerala.

Resources or services available can be retrieved easily from the alphabetically arranged list in the main page. The District Administration and the NIC will always be ready to help the users by making necessary alterations and improvements to the site.
